Topher Grace-Led Comedy ‘Home Economics’ at ABC – The Hollywood Reporter

Topher Grace’s return to network television is officially underway.

ABC has given a series order to Domestical economy, a single-camera comedy centered on three siblings — one member of the 1%, one from the middle class, and one struggling to make ends meet. Grace will play the middle brother (both in age and economic status) and will also serve as executive producer.

The series, a co-production of Lionsgate TV and ABC Signature, was created by Michael Colton and John Aboud and inspired by Colton’s life. It is slated to premiere in the spring and will mark Grace’s first regular TV series role since leaving Fox’s. That 70s show in 2005.

“I never thought of doing another show until I read the incredible script by Michael Colton and John Aboud,” Grace lamented. “The characters they created and the incredible ensemble they brought together to play them is a family that I had to be a part of.”

The cast also includes Caitlin McGee (Bluff City Law), Jimmy Tatro (american vandal), Karla Souza (How to escape murder) and Sasheer Zamata (Saturday Night Live). McGee will play the eldest of three siblings, a therapist for at-risk children who is married to a teacher (Zamata) and whose financial situation is often precarious. Tatro plays the younger and richer brother.

The series will also feature young actors Shiloh Bearman, Jordyn Curet, Chloe Jo Rountree, and JeCobi Swain as the children of the three main characters.

Colton and Aboud (Lever, Penguins of Madagascar) executive producer with Grace and Eric and Kim Tannenbaum of The Tannenbaum Company, who have an overall deal with Lionsgate TV. Jason Wang of the Tannebaum Company serves as co-executive producer.

Domestical economy is the second comedy from ABC’s 2020 development cycle to earn a series order, following that directed by Kyra Sedgwick call your mother (which will premiere on January 13). The network also has drama Rebelfrom Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff and based on the life of Erin Brockovich, slated for 2021.
