Five Muskegon Area Wrestling Programs Bring Home Tag Team District Titles

The Michigan High School Wrestling Team District Tournament kicked off Wednesday night with five Muskegon-area programs battling their way to the top of the bracket to claim district championship trophies.

Grand Haven, Whitehall, Orchard View, Hart and Kent City have all won their respective team tournaments and will move on to next week’s regional team competition.

Below is an overview of the performance of all wrestling teams in the Muskegon area, including championship match results.

REMARKS: Jimmy Thommen (103), Chris Aebig (125), Cale Coppess (135), Tristan Winkleblack (140) and Joe Winkelman (285) all finished 2-0 to lead Montague.

“We fought really well tonight,” Montague head coach Kris Maddox said. “The children fought extremely hard for their school. Couldn’t be happier with this part. We won several games that we lost last weekend in the conference tournament and earlier in the year. We had a few guys who fought sick tonight and they fought for their team. I was really happy with the courage shown by our team. Hart was the best team and we wish them luck at the team regionals next week.
