Super Bowl home, away teams 2022: Bengals are home team for Super Bowl LVI vs Rams at SoFi Stadium

For the second consecutive season, one of the NFL teams in the superbowl will play at their home stadium. However, it will be Cincinnati Bengals host Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI due to a technicality.

The NFL alternates which team between the AFC and NFC is home and away. Last year, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosted the Kansas City Chiefs in their stadium. The Bucs were actually the home team, meaning they were traded this season.

What does that mean? Well, the home team can choose the uniform they will wear for the Super Bowl. That is just about everything. There was speculation floating around that they would have the Rams locker room, but since Los Angeles also hosts the Chargersthe Bengals will be in this locker room instead.

The Rams – as visitors – can call the coin toss to start games and at the start of overtime, if applicable.

It’s just a fun concept that the Rams will technically enter this game as a visitor despite playing it their entire season. It will also make for hilarious jokes if Cincinnati ends up winning. It just seems like the NFL is edging out quarterback Joe Burrow and the Bengals taking over SoFi Stadium after earning the team’s first Super Bowl win in franchise history.

Hopefully enough Bengals fans — and people rooted for Cincinnati — can make the trip. It would serve Los Angeles just after limiting ticket sales for the NFC Championship game against the 49ers.
