Welcome Home: Team USA Paralympians arrive in Salt Lake City

UTAH (ABC4) — Sunday marked the end in Beijing of the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games. Nearly a dozen Paralympian athletes arrived on the Delta flight this morning. Friends and family members waited at the door to greet loved ones fresh off the competition.

Faces filled with smiles, hugs were given and of course, cheers rang out as the Paralympians returned home.

Despite the challenges posed by their disability, the ABC4 Paralympians said, “It’s amazing what something so [small as] belief can do for someone’s confidence.

Delta is the official airline of Team USA on the route to Beijing 2022, Paris 2024, Milano Cortina 2026 and LA28. The partnership with Team USA reinforces the global airline’s longstanding support for sports – and its proud history of supporting Team USA at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Delta was a past sponsor of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in its hometown of Atlanta in 1996 and Salt Lake City in 2002.
After the Closing Ceremony, Delta flew athletes on a charter flight from Beijing to SLC, which carried more than 150 passengers, including Paralympians, as well as coaches, trainers and staff. back from the Paralympic Winter Games. Brenna Huckaby of Utah is a Paralympic snowboarder. She is also a cancer survivor and mother who at one point seemed unable to compete due to injury. After a long battle, Huckaby was not only able to compete in Beijing, but also won a number of additional medals.

“Over the past year I was fighting for my spot at the Games, winning my spot and a few medals,” Huckaby said.

An advocate for people with disabilities and body positivity, Huckaby sends a heartfelt message to young girls.

“You have a purpose, you have a voice and if you keep fighting you will eventually win.”

Paralympic sledge ice hockey athlete Jen Lee told ABC4 that even though they were competing as the pandemic continued, she knew he had the support of his family in Utah and it all worked out. for the best.
